The Tennessee Freedom to Read Project defends every Tennessean’s right to access their public libraries and find their stories on the shelves. We oppose politically motivated shutdowns, censorship orders, and ideological oversight of the collection. We work with local communities, policymakers, and the media to protect free expression and restore the rights of all readers.
Tennessee libraries are being shut down and forced to audit their shelves because of political directives targeting LGBTQ+ books and stories. We’re fighting back. The Tennessee Freedom to Read Project stands with librarians and a diverse public to work with local and state leaders to protect every Tennessean’s right to read freely and without fear, intimidation, or government overreach.
